The Joint Entrance Examination (JEE) is an engineering entrance examination that is computer-based conducted by National Testing Agency for students who are willing to pursue undergraduate courses in engineering colleges.

JEE Mains Exam

The Joint Entrance Examination (JEE) is an engineering entrance examination that is computer-based conducted by National Testing Agency. JEE Main Exam consists of two papers.

It consists of two papers where Paper1 is conducted for Undergraduate engineering programs (B.E/B.Tech). Students aspiring to pursue their undergraduate courses in IITs, NITs, and CFTIs are subjected to paper1. Those who are aspiring for IITs would have to qualify for JEE Advanced after qualifying JEE Mains.

Paper2 is conducted for candidates aspiring for B.Arch. and B.Planning courses.

According to NTA’s official data, around 9,41,000 students applied for JEE Mains in 2019 and this number is increasing every year. 

Eligibility criteria for JEE Mains and JEE Advanced:

  • Candidates should have passed class 12 or qualifying the exam in 2019 or 2020 or appearing in 2021.

Combination of subjects for the qualifying exam

For B.E/B.Tech

  • Mathematics
  • Physics
  • Chemistry/Biotechnology/Biology/any Technical Vocational subject

For B.Arch

  • Mathematics
  • Physics
  • Chemistry

For B.Planning

  • Mathematics

State Code of eligibility is a point to note, It means Candidate becomes eligible for JEE Mains by the virtue of where the candidate has passed class 12 examination. State Code of Eligibility does not depend on the candidate’s native place or residence.

JEE Mains can be attempted for consecutively 3 years. As per updated guidelines JEE main is conducted 4 times in February, March, April, and May.

Exam Guidelines for JEE Main:

  • One passport size photograph (same as uploaded on the Online Application Form) 
  • Authorised Photo IDs-Pan Card/Aadhaar Card/Driving License/Voter ID/Passport/Ration Card
  • Admit Card
  • Use only Ball Pen
  • Do Wear Half Sleeves T-Shirts

Things which are prohibited-

  • Electronic Items like Calculator, Mobile Phone, and also Watch.
  • Any Eatables, Tea or Coffee
  • Only Diabetic patients are allowed to carry Eatables that are not packed such as candy, chocolate.

Exam pattern of JEE Main 2021

  • Each question carries 4 marks
  • 1 mark will be deducted for every wrong answer.
